Brooklyn-by-way-of-Charleston singer/songwriter Frances Cone’s new single “Come Back” sounds like the type of song that would score a romance set in a ‘50s-style diner. It has that lived-in nostalgic quality which places the listener somewhere immediately familiar, yet removed from any specific decade or place.
With a soft voice that hits somewhere between Neko Case’s Americana and the breathy depth of Cat Power, Cone takes a failing relationship and spins it into a yarn as comforting as it is heartbreaking. The video, too (shot by Hillary Spera), contains a similar out-of-time intimacy. Watch it below, and download the single now on iTunes.
